Leo’s Beanery

This place felt like a travelers paradise. Sunken into the ground on Leven St., Leo’s Beanery is a quiet coffee shop and great for catching up with friends or writing your next novel. The walls are covered in maps and travel photos which matches the eclectic people you’ll meet.

Locals love this beanery since it’s away from the crowds on Princes Street. There are the young, old, and the occasional restless traveler. I fell in love with this place for their sweet treats. The coffee was good too, especially the Macchiato.  Try one of their brownies with a coffee and you won’t go wrong. If tea is your favorite, then this place will serve your palate as well. They’ve got a choice of fresh loose leaf teas and eclectic herbal ones.

Scott’s Oyster Bar

Opened 26 years ago, Scott’s Oyster Bar aims to provide fresh seafood and a place for people to dine and catch up on long missed conversations. All of Georgetown, Texas is known for its rustic ambiance and rich history and this place doesn’t let you down on that note! Located a couple blocks from the square, this bar is part of a tiny plaza where you can get an assortment of treats. From wine and cheese to a blueberry snow cone, you’re sure to find something you like.

What’s great about this place is that it’s very laid back. The service is wonderful, and the waitresses are more than happy to help you choose your next beer. Each night they have a different special. Last Thursday, when a friend and I went it was fresh alligator. I’m not talking the regular alligator tail. This was the main white meat of those delicious creatures! It was juicy, tender, and flavored to perfection. I tied some Cajun fried corn with it and wasn’t let down.

After eating an appetizer, drinking beer, and having your entree, it might be too much to go for dessert… At least I thought so at first until I heard they have lemon cake. Make room! Usually, I’m a chocolate girl. Throw chocolate in my face and I’ll dive for it. But the lemon cake was different, and the waitress recommended it after all the seafood, saying it paired nicely. She wasn’t wrong. That was the best piece of lemon cake I’ve ever had.

Scott’s Oyster Bar is a great place for family and friends. You can go for a couple of beers or get a full entree. Whatever your mood, they’re sure to accommodate!
